June 27-July 1, 2011

National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan

Organizers and sponsors:

National Tsing Hua University

National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center

Crystallographic Committee/Academia Sinica

Asian Oceania Neutron Scattering Association

National Science Council, Taiwan

Introduction:

The 3rd ICNX conference will take place from 27th of June to 1st of July, 2011 at Hsinchu, Taiwan. It is jointly organized mainly by National Tsing Hua University, and National Synchrotron Radiation Research. Previous conferences in this series were held in Serpong and Bandung, Indonesia ICNX2007 and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ICNX2009.

The main topics for the conference:

- Membranes and interfaces of soft condensed matter

- Magnetism

- Time resolved in-situ studies and dynamics

- Nanostructured or thin film materials

- Coherent X-ray scattering and imaging

- Instrumentation and theory developments

- Industrial applications using scattering method

- X-ray and neutron complementary crystallography

- Opportunities from new facilities

Objects:

The objective of this conference is to bring together scientists who develop neutron and X-ray scattering instruments and methods, perform characterization experiments and data analysis on soft and solid state matters. The complementary applications of using X-ray and neutron beam give a better view of structures of condensed matters. We hope to attract more international users to exchange more brilliant ideas for the new scattering facilities during this meeting.

Conference Venue

The conference will be held at the Department of Engineering and System Science of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Hsinchu, Taiwan. Hsinchu is a scientific city, 40 km south to the CKS international airport, and 70 km from Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. Hsinchu is a historical city with a population of 360K, while more than 130K people working in the Hsinchu Scientific Park. Both Taiwan synchrotron radiation facility and the nuclear reactor are within a walking distance from NTHU. This year, the NTHU celebrates her 100th birthday since founded in Beijing in 1911.

Important Date:

Deadline of abstract submittal: March 30

Abstract acceptance notice: April 10

Pre-registration: May 15, 2011

Conference date: June 27-July 1, 2011

Full paper submittal: July 1, 2011

Abstract submission:

The abstract should be written in Microsoft WORD and E-mail to chlee@mx.nthu.edu.tw as an attached file following the template form attached below. The deadline for abstract submission is March 30. All the title, authors’ names, affiliations, E-mail address of the corresponding authors and the text of abstract should be fitted into one A4 paper with margin of 1.5 cm on each side. The font is Times New Roman and the size is 10. The title and authors should be in bold type. Use the single space between lines and leave one blank line between the title, authors’ name, affiliation and the text of the abstract. Please underline the presentation author. The E-mail address of the corresponding author should be attached. Please indicate your preference in oral or poster presentation and choose one of the sessions. (See Word template below)

Publication:

An abstract book will be provided during the meeting. The proceeding with full length papers of either oral contributions or poster presentations will be published in CD or memory stick. Selected papers will be reviewed and published in a special issue of SCI journal (to be determined).

Excursion:

On the afternoon of July1, a business visit to NSRRC will be arranged. Afterwards, the bus will stop by the old town San-Siao (stay for 90 min) and then go to Taipei. Participants can get-off the tour bus at the following stops: Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, National Palace Museum and Shih-Lin Night Market. The tour bus will be leave for NTHU/Hsinchu at 20:30 from the Shih-Lin Night Market.

Traveling information;

The weather in Taiwan during the end of June is about 25-35. The electricity and plug is similar to the type used in USA, 110V/60 Hz.

Money Exchange:

The exchange rate is about 1 US$=NT$30 (New Taiwan Dollars). Many banks and major hotels in Taiwan provide the money exchange service. The banking hour is 9:00-15:30 Monday-Friday. The most convenient place to exchange the money is at airport.

Transportation information:

Riding a taxi is the easiest way from Taoyuan International airport (CKS airport) to NTHU/Hsinchu. It takes 40 min and cost about NT$1500 for one way. For most travelers, first, take the bus (fare NT$30, 20 min) to the nearby Taiwan High Speed Railway (THSR) Station (Taoyuan). Then, take the south bound train to Hsinchu station (one stop, ticket fare about NT$130, 15 min) and finally take the free shuttle bus to the main gate of NTHU (20 min) or downtown Hsinchu city. In total, it takes about 90 min. including the waiting time.

The public bus service between NTHU and Taipei city takes 80 min and the bus leave NTHU about every 10 min. The fare is about NT$150 for one trip. You can also take the free shuttle bus in front of NTHU to THSR Hsinchu station and bound for Taipei (fare about NT$290). The train leaves Hsinchu station every 30 min and it takes 30 min to Taipei.

For THSR information see www.thsrc.com.tw

Hotel information

There are many hotels for accommodations in Hsinchu area. The price ranges from NT$1200-NT$6000 typically. A list of discounted hotel will be announced later. Shuttle bus will arranged for the foreign participants from/to NTHU and Hotel in Hsinchu downtown each day during the conference. If you miss the shuttle bus, take bus line number 1 (fare NT$15, pay cash on the bus, no change) to the bus stop at the main gate of NTHU. The taxi is also available everywhere all the time, it costs about NT$200 from Hsinchu downtown to NTHU or from THSR Hsinchu station to NTHU.

Visa information and invitation letter:

Some conference participants are eligible for visa-exempt entry and some require a visa to enter Taiwan. Please note that it takes some time to receive a visitor visa for participants from certain countries. It is extremely important that you start the visa application process NOW, especially for those people from mainland of China. For general visa information, please visit:
