Early diagnosis of cancer is the best way to beat cancer. Through the use of PET (positron emission tomography) and SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography), cancer-targeted radiolabeled molecules can be monitored by non-invasive imaging for diagnosis. In order to develop cancer-targeted radiolabeled molecules efficiently, rapid parallel synthesis of solution-phase derived libraries followed by their in situ cell-based screening is an innovative approach. The core structures constitute natural product-like and drug-like molecules, e.g. nucleoside, glycoside, glycosphingolipid, ceramide, ethacrynic amide, fenbufen amide, glutathione and cyclic peptide. Molecules tagged with ultrahigh sensitive radionuclides e.g. fluorine-18 and iodine-123 have been intensively studied in this laboratory. Liver multidrug-resistant enzyme and cyclooxygenase might be targeted as a biomarker for cancer therapy using our newly developed 18F- and 123I- labeled new compounds. The data of pharmacokinetics will be useful for preclinical as well as clinical studies in the future.
