Warmup & Review 1. Greetings

2. Draw 6 pictures of different facial expressions: happy,sad, angry, tired, thirsty, and hungry.

3. Show flashcards and ask students to repeat after the teacher.  Then ask students to match each word with the correct picture on the blackboard.

4. Show the pictures of the 4 characters: Mei-li, Bobby,Jenny and Da-ming.  Make sentences by combining the characters and flashcards, e.g. Bobby is thirsty.

5. Battleships:

(1) Divide the class into 2 teams.

(2) Each team sends one student.  Have these 2 students choose one kind of emotion, i.e. sad. Don’t let their opponents be aware.

(3) Have two teams take turns question each other to find how the opponent student feels.

(4) The first team who finds the right emotion gets one point.

6. Form the word:

(1) Prepare 6 words: sad, happy, angry, thirsty, hungry, and tired.

(2) Pick out the letter cards that form the 6 words from both sets of letter cards.

(3) Divide the class into 2 teams.

(4) Assign letter cards to students.  Each student should have at least one letter card.  Each team should have at least one letter card.  Each team words.

(5) The teacher will call out a word and then say, “Go!”, e.g. “Tired … Go!”

(6) The students who hold the letter cards, T, I, R, E, D, should come to the front and form the word, “TIRED”.

(7) The faster team that forms the correct word wins one point.

Presentation 1. Let’s move: (2 min)

(1) The teacher should go out of the classroom, and say, “I am outside!”  Then the teacher should come inside the classroom, and say, “I am inside!”

(2) Repeat this action several times.  Call out a student to perform the same action: going outside and coming inside.

(3) Have every student stand up and then give orders: everyone go outside or come inside.

2. Let’s chant: (3 min)

(1) The teacher should read the sentences with relevant actions, e.g. clap, blink, stomp, etc

(2) Have students read and act together with the teacher.

(3) Play the music.  Sing and act together.

(4) Repeat the song and sing again.

3. Phonics: (2 min)

(1) Have students repeat after the teacher.

(2) Show flashcards and pictures to repeat the vocabulary and its meaning.

4. Connect the letters: (10 min)

(1) Divide the class into 2 teams.

(2) Divide the board into 2.  On the left side of each half, write a set of capital letters.  On the right of each half, write a matching set of smaller letters in the different order.

            For example: I        j

                                 L        l

                                 J         i

(3) Each team should send one student to the front, waiting for the teacher to call out a letter.  Then the 2 students must run to the board and draw a line from the Capital J to the small j, etc

(4) The first student who matches correctly the capital letter with the small letter wins a point.

(5) Play continues for each member of each team.

5. Waiters: (10 min)

(1) Divide the class into 2 teams.

(2) Put the letter cards in a row on the board.

(3) Call one student from each team at a time.  He/she will be the waiters.

(4) These two students should ask the teacher, “What letter do you want?” The teacher should reply, “I want a Q!”

(5) Two waiters run to the board, pick out the correct letter, and give the letter to the teacher.

(6) The faster “waiter” who takes correct order should get one point.

(7) Play continues for each member of each team.  The team with more marks is the winner.

6. Who are you? (3min)

(1) What is your name?

      My name is _____.

(2) How old are you?

      I’m ___ years old.

(3) How are you today?

      I’m _____ today.  (tired, happy, sad, etc.)

(4) The teacher will call some students randomly and ask their name, age, and how they feel today.

7. Pass the word: (5 min)

(1) 5 or 6 students in one group.  One group a time comes up to the front and stands in a row.

(2) The teacher will show the first one in the row a card, which tells some information.  For example,

          “My name is Andy.

           I’m 10 years old.

           I’m happy today.”

(3) The card is only shown to the first student.  He/she should whisper the message to the second student, and the second one to the third one, etc.

(4) When the message is whispered to the last student, the last student should tell everyone the message.  And the teacher should judge if it is correct.

(5) If the final answer is incorrect, the teacher should have every student in the row repeat what he/she just said.  And then continue the game to the following groups.

 

 
Practice 1.  Play the CD and do the exercise on the textbook.

(1) Listen and check the box.

(2) Circle and write the missing letter.

(3) Trace and write the alphabets 5 times.

Review 1. Show all the flashcards and review today’s vocabulary.   Have students repeat after the teacher. (2 min)

2. Review today’s sentence patterns. (2 min)

(1) Are you happy?

      Yes, I am happy.        No, I am not happy.

(2) Go outside.

     Come inside.

(3) What’s your name?  My name is ___.

      How old are you?  I’m ___ years old.

      How are you today?  I’m ____ today.

3. Game: (8 min)

(1) Divide the class into 5 groups.  The teacher is the 6th group.  These groups separately stand as “happy”, “sad”, “thirsty”, “tired”, “hungry”, and “hungry”.

(2) Start with the teacher.  For example, if the teacher represents “hungry”, then the teacher begins with,

“Hungry is here.  Hungry is here.  Hungry is here and where is sad?”

The “sad” group should reply, “Sad is here.  Sad is here.  Sad is here and where is ____?”

(3) The next group continues.  Speed up the game.
