Chapter 16

Shrek calls Donkey a stubborn jackass.  Remember donkey and jackass usually refer to the same animal.  A common simile is "as stubborn as a jackass" or "as stubborn as a mule".

Continuing on the same line, when Shrek and Donkey board the dragon and Shrek expresses his great thanks to Donkey, Donkey replies, "no one likes a kiss ass".  If you kiss someone's ass you compliment them and maybe also give them gifts in order to gain some favor from them.  Donkey is using this in the literal way, since Shrek is so thankful he would kiss his friend the Donkey (ass).

Common expression, Where there's a will, there's a way.  If you really want (have the will) to do something, you can find a way to do it.
